For a long time in my career,
I was playing a role.

How did I let it come that far?

I was told my biggest strength, building trusted connections, wasn’t “appropriate” in that industry. The message I got was quite clear: I shouldn’t have my own ideas, style or approach; just execute what I was told to do.
And I gave in. 

A couple of years later, I was told I “looked too young” and felt I was not taken seriously in meetings. I was the only person under 30 in a bunch of mid forties – it felt lonely and completely out of place.
In order to “fit in” – I adapted my style to theirs. 
 

As a female executive, you may feel alone as well, lost in the wilderness of doing business, and feeling you have to give up your own way of being and adapting to what you see around you in order to fit in, make the collaboration work and be successful.

Being the only woman in a male-dominated team, and the only one under 30 in between a bunch of 40-somethings, it felt lonely. I felt isolated, exhausted.

As a professional woman, you may feel alone as well, lost in the wilderness of doing business, and aren’t encouraged to turn to anyone for the answers you seek.
